Are Crop Circles More Than Just Modern Pranks?

A Tasmanian historian used Google Earth images to argue that crop circles, which are often dismissed as jokes taken too far, are not simply a modern hoax, according to the Huffington Post.

Many were persuaded that the intriguing circles were nothing more than pranks when two British men, David Chorley and Doug Bower, revealed in 1991 that they, under the cover of darkness and armed with wooden planks and barrels, had been creating circles across the wheat fields of southern England since 1978.

The two “ jovial con men in their 60s,” as described by a local newspaper at the time of the revelation, demonstrated in front of groups of journalists how they trampled out the patterns that were often attributed to aliens, reported the New York Times.

But historian Greg Jefferys, who has a degree in archaeology, says he has new evidence that not all crop circles have a human origin.

After spending more than 300 hours examining aerial photographs from Google Earth’s new 1945 overlay, Jefferys concludes that a number of crop circles has been appearing consistently each summer for at least 33 years before Chorley and Bower began their work. Continue reading →

Bigfoot – Plural?

I like the tv program “Finding Bigfoot” on Animal Planet. It’s a little bit silly with a dash of fun and historical footage.

Aside from the fun, I have a beef with the show that is slowly driving me batty; the improper use of Bigfoots as the plural. It’s just wrong.

There are some animals that use an S on the end to indicate a group plural: dolphins, cats, dogs, horses, humans, birds. Then there are species that have a whole new word to indicate more than one; mouse turns into mice, pony into ponies, fly as flies, goose becomes geese. Etc.

And then there are the singular animals that do not morph as more enter to form a group; Deer are not deers, they are deer. Elk shun the S and remain elk. Moose are not mooses, it’s a herd of moose. And if one sees a group of starfish, one did not see starfishes, they saw many starfish.

This last group is where Bigfoot belongs, in my own humble opinion. No Bigfoots, nor Bigfeet. Just Bigfoot, singular or plural.

Just wanted to get that off my chest. Sasquatch on.

Kansas militia expects zombies, and it’s dead serious

It’s got to be one of the coolest names ever for a group:

The Kansas Anti Zombie Militia.

But the group is real and its members are pretty serious about it.

Once the Zombie Apocalypse hits, they’ll be ready for it and they want you to be too.

“Can a natural person change into this monster that many fear?” Alfredo Carbajal, the militia’s main spokesman, said in an interview. “The possibilities are yes, it can happen. We have seen incidents that are very close to it, and we are thinking it is more possible than people think.”

Carbajal and other true believers aren’t so much scared of movie zombies. The apocalypse they see coming is a pandemic spread by a virus that creates zombie-like symptoms.

Last month, the Discovery Channel featured the Kansas militia in a documentary that concluded that such a Zombie Apocalypse — or Zompoc — was possible. The program featured scientists who speculated some evolving virus is bound to jump to humans on our overcrowded planet. Continue reading →

In the approximately five-minute video, you can see an anomalous white orb lurking in the background. It hovers in one place, and then gradually vanishes, appearing to travel away from the station. Chicago Thanksgiving Day Bus Zombie

Nov 24, 2012: Chicago is not without it’s fair share of strange attacks.

On Thanksgiving, an enraged man was aboard the California bus on Chicago’s south side. He was intoxicated, and taking off his clothes as he beat and assaulted several passengers, including the bus driver.

The first officer on the scene was an evidence technician. He approached the bus as the assailant, Ismael Jamison, 28, began to attack the officer. The officer shot the crazed attacker, who then stumbled backward.

He regained his footing and again approached the officer, who quickly shot again.

When more officers and medics arrived on the scene, Jamison needed to be tasered to be subdued enough to be placed in the ambulance.

Shot twice, naked, tasered, and randomly attacking civilians and officers. Highly suspicious behavior. Bath salts? Wasted on booze? Or perhaps something more potent, perhaps he was rabid.

Zombie attacks don’t always come from the undead. Keep your eyes and ears sharp, and if you see something, say something.

Russia Warns Of Catastrophic 21 December 2012 “Event Horizon”

A startling report prepared by the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) states that evidenced uncovered by France’s General Directorate for External Security (DGSE), during their investigation into the hacking of former President Nicolas Sarkozy’s computers by the United States and Israel, is revealing that our world is about to experience a “technological singularity,” which is seen as an intellectual “event horizon,” beyond which events cannot be predicted or understood.

According to this report, the DGSE began investigating a series of attacks on the computers belonging to several close advisers to Sarkozy earlier this year, and which French intelligence officials linked to US-Israeli spy software said to have been created to target Iran’s nuclear program. Yesterday, however, the US Embassy in Paris took the unusual step of flatly denying this DGSE report that Washington was responsible.

This SVR report supports the US denial of this attack, in a most unexpected way, by stating that evidence it has uncovered points to this event being directed, not by any individual, but by a computer system acting on its own.

And not just any computer system, this report says, but a supercomputer under the control of IBM Research who uses this massive system in collaboration with the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Systems of Neuromorphic Adaptive Plastic Scalable Electronics (SyNAPSE) programme, and which recently announced it had reached another brain simulation milestone.

One of the world’s top acknowledged experts on artificial intelligence (AI), Doctor-Scientist Anthony Berglas of Australia’s University of Queensland, warned the world in his January, 2012 research paper, titled “Artificial Intelligence Will Kill Our Grandchildren” to limit the production of ever more powerful computers and so try to starve any AI of processing power. This time the elusive Bigfoot Sasquatch legend has been seen in the Provo, UT area. The specific area was around an area that two campers were hiking around identified as a location around Squaw Peak & Little Rock Canyon Overlook. You can see the area in question in the map which shows the wide swatch of mountainous area that is heavy with trees.

The person that released the video is named Beard Card who signed up for a YouTube account on October 30th, 2012. The video was uploaded and shared to the world and has since racked up over 3,000,000 views. There are about three to four different versions of the video which we’ll include below. Some of the big foot videos are enhanced with a slower frame rate and color enhancements to allow you to see the Bigfoot silhouette standing up in the woods.

During the video you can hear the two campers mumbling some muffled exchanges back and forth like, “I can’t see” while filming a dark figure in the woods that is crouched down. One person says, “What’s he doing?” as his breath picked up and he breathed heavier. Beard says, “We’re probably just to close to it, huh?” As the Sasquatch figure stands up and shows it’s arms, head and full figure the camera quickly moves away and the two start running after one person says, “Let’s go.”

The whole situation has a Blair Witch Project feeling to it and seems fairly real. In the YouTube description Beard Card says that they ran to the car after it stood up and they left their tent & everything else in the camping area. Continue reading →

Hello Old Friend

I ran into an old friend Friday.

I stopped by my favorite used book store after work, hoping to stock up on paper backs before the winter cold settles in. I make my way to the science fiction section way in the back, scan the shelves, picking my way past fantasy, dragons, fairies and the more hard core SF novels that are all too often series now, too long to bother with. Then my eye lands on a single slim spine, tucked away on the bottom shelf, as Silverberg usually is when filed alphabetically.

Time Of The Great Freeze by Robert Silverberg 

“Oh my gosh. Hello!”

I quickly plucked the book from it’s neighbors and held it in a death grip, even though the backroom was vacant except for me. And I smiled.

This story was my first Silverberg and I’m fairly certain it was my first post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi experience. I was eight or nine at the time. I close my eyes and can see myself pulling it, in hardback, from among the stacks of books in the Public Library. The world is covered in ice! People living under cities for hundreds of years! Breaking free!

I didn’t want to take it back to the Library when I was done.

Over the years, I have often thought back to this short juvenile novel that made such an impression on my psyche. Even when a story ends, the characters can remain alive in memory. I have read many more Silverberg novels over the years, and loads more SF by many more authors, Heinlein settling in as my all time favorite long ago. This may not have been Silverberg’s best, nor was it my favorite novel among my favorite genre, yet it remains special. Something about it lit a spark that has never gone out. And I was so happy to stumble across it again by accident. Sometimes we find what we need when we aren’t looking.

The printing is 1971, and it’s in remarkable shape for being over 40 years old. I sniff and look around to see if I have been caught; it smells just the way a proper old paperback book should; woody, earthy, dusty and ever so slightly sweet. I open the book, breath in the muskiness, and am transported back. “It was late in the day – or what passed for day in the underground city of New York.”

CHILLICOTHE — A group of crop circle enthusiasts gathered Sunday at a farm near Hopewell Mound Group to get a ground-level look at a newly discovered formation there.
Jeffrey Wilson, director and co-founder of the Independent Crop Circle Researchers’ Association, was joined by about a dozen cerealogists — people who study crop circles — at 8 a.m. for an investigation of the site. A Gazette reporter tried to accompany the group to the site, but was turned away by Wilson. He said anyone outside of the group would need the property owner’s permission, but he declined to provide the owner’s name or contact information.

In a Sept. 24 post on the website cropcircleconnector.com, Wilson said the landowner is only granting access to the group that conducted the investigation Sunday. He urged others to respect the landowner’s property rights and not to trespass.

A page dedicated to the crop circle indicates it first was reported Sept. 20 by Kevin Williams, the brother of a woman who saw it while flying over the farm in an airplane.
“My sister saw a crop circle from an airplane last week,” Williams wrote on the website. “She asked (the other person in the airplane) to take some pictures for me as she knew I was a believer in extraterrestrial life.” Continue reading →
