Vikki puts much thought, work and lots of love into her drawings, pouring her heart into each image. It is not uncommon for the artist to wake up at three o’clock in the morning so excited to get back to the sketching or inking that she cannot sleep one more second. Vikki has been known to completely forget to eat breakfast or even lunch when in the middle of a new book. She becomes consumed by her project in the most delightful way.

If you are not familiar with The Art Of Vikki’s coloring book art, she still does it the old fashioned way, starting with pencil in hand and a sheet of simple white paper. There is much sketching and erasing, chewing on the pencil and fiddling over lines in the beginning until the page fills up with something that makes her smile real big and nod yes, yes that’s it. Once the drawing is to her liking Vikki carefully uses a black fine tip Sharpie marker pen to ink over the lines. These original hand drawn art pieces are then scanned into the computer where she magnifies the image and scrolls slowly up and down, back and forth, pixel by pixel, cleaning up any little artifacts, smudges or slips of the pen. While she wants a clean final image for her colorists, Vikki does not aim to make everything too perfect. There are lots of computer programs that could trace the lines for her and make them uniform and flawless just like everyone else but the artist loves the charming hand drawn quality of her books. The little quirks and imperfections are there to document that a real person drew this, with love and care and a lot of artistic pride, just for you to color.

As Vikki began the proposal for this very special personalized coloring book opportunity she was unexpectedly inspired by a very kind and most generous lady. Vikki’s heart was deeply touched by her story although the woman in question is completely unaware of her influence.
